Steve "Stag" Jones
Stag's bass playing combines with Steve's drums to provide the solid foundation driving the set along. A good bass player knows when to push their music to the forefront but also knows when their presence should only be obvious to the audience if they weren't there! That sums up Stag's playing perfectly, standing out on its own or merging with the whole as necessary. He started his musical career at school messing around with a couple of mates playing guitar. No singer, no drummer … just three guitars. Not surprisingly, that didn't last too long. Meeting Ritchie at school he joined Stone Free on bass (starting on a fretless!), which he has now been playing for about ten years. He played with Stone Free up until a couple of months ago when they disbanded (allegedly). He also played in an Indie band called Get Carter for a while, but the vocalist moved to the bright lights of London … so that was that. His biggest bass influences are Cliff Burton (ex-Metallica) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), but as far as music in general goes it's the Smashing Pumpkins, the Smashing Pumpkins and the Smashing Pumpkins. As the 'Pumpkins have now split, that's one ambition down the drain. Ah well, perhaps one day he'll play with Metallica, Jamiroquai, Manic Street Preachers or Pink Floyd (his choice, not mine). Recently he's been getting into old skool happy hardcore, cos it makes him laugh until he wets his pants. He can't remember when he joined the Docs..... Kevin and Simon saw him at a jam session … but he was p****d at the time, so … Anyway, he's glad he joined the Docs … "I honestly don't think I've played with a better vocalist. Everybody should see Kev out on Sunday afternoons to watch Spurs, to get what he's REALLY like, hehehe"
